Meet Lisa

I live in Easton with my husband and two Labradoodles. Before coming to the Eastern Shore in 2007, I worked in Washington DC for 25 years, first as a paralegal and later as an editor for Legal Times, a weekly newspaper.

My education in dog training and behavior began in 2008, and has taken me all over the country. I continue to spend at least 10 hours every month learning from the very best instructors in this field--from expert clicker trainers to certified applied animal behaviorists--at workshops, seminars, classes, and conferences, as well as webinars and books. Staying up-to-date is very important because as our understanding of canine cognition and behavior grows, techniques improve.

Tellington TTouch® training, where I began my education, taught me to see things from the dog's perspective. I learned that it's essential to make the dog feel safe, give her choices, and become self-confident.

Pat Miller and Gail Fisher, both in the top tier of positive trainers, taught me how to engage the dog's mind and attention by making training fun and creative. There is nothing more exciting to me than seeing a dog's eyes light up when she figures out what to do. A thinking dog is a good dog.

And from ethologists and applied animal behaviorists, I've learned how to analyze a behavior to understand why it's occurring and how to change it. I love the challenge of changing emotional responses and consequences to improve behavior and mental well-being.

I offer one-on-one help and support for your dog's challenges.

Baywater Animal Rescue

Shelter Dogs are also important to me. I volunteered at Talbot Humane for two years and currently serve on the board of Baywater Animal Rescue, a no-kill shelter (formerly known as Dorchester Humane Society). My mission is to improve mental welfare and adoptability by training life skills.

"Thanks for all the info and lessons! You have been a huge help!!"
